Lupin selects HPE to modernise cloud operations

Indian multinational pharmaceutical company Lupin Limited has chosen Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to modernise its private cloud infrastructure and manage cloud costs more effectively. The Mumbai-based company will adopt HPE’s Private Cloud Enterprise solution, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce reliance on public cloud services.
Lupin, which already uses HPE’s GreenLake cloud services, expects the new system to lower IT expenses while maintaining the advantages of cloud technology. The upgrade is intended to strengthen data protection, support faster innovation, and improve energy efficiency.
HPE Managed Services will take responsibility for managing Lupin’s SAP S/4 HANA systems and overseeing network and security arrangements at its data centres.

Ramesh Swaminathan, Executive Director, Global CFO and Head of API Plus SBU at Lupin, said the decision aligns with the company’s growth plans. He added that the new system offers the flexibility, security and efficiency needed to meet business objectives and deliver quality products.
Som Satsangi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of HPE India, said the collaboration with Lupin highlights the growing shift towards private cloud solutions in India. He said the partnership reflects HPE’s ongoing commitment to helping businesses adopt secure and efficient cloud systems.
The HPE Private Cloud Enterprise platform will allow Lupin to host core applications in data centres while using edge applications at manufacturing sites, aiming to streamline operations and cut downtime. The new setup is expected to simplify processes, speed up innovation, and provide better control over costs and resource use.

Bringing workloads back from public cloud services to a private environment is also seen as a move to strengthen data security and ensure compliance with regulations, an important consideration for pharmaceutical companies.
Edge computing capabilities will help Lupin monitor and analyse production quality in real time, aiming to maintain high standards for its products. Central management will still oversee the data, balancing local processing with overall control.
Earlier this month, HPE launched its HPE Private Cloud AI solution in India. The new platform is a fully integrated artificial intelligence cloud system designed to help businesses of all sizes develop and deploy generative AI applications and AI agents.

The offering forms part of the Nvidia AI Computing by HPE portfolio, a collection of AI solutions developed jointly by the two companies.
Som Satsangi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of HPE India, said AI is reshaping businesses rapidly, and organisations in India are keen to make the most of its potential while maintaining control and efficiency. He added that the HPE Private Cloud AI would support enterprises in adopting AI more quickly, providing a scalable, secure and self-service cloud environment that helps move from experimentation to real-world applications.
