JLR partners with Tata Tech for SAP S/4HANA implementation

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a producer of luxury vehicles and SUVs and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Limited, part of the Tata group, on Tuesday, said that it has implemented SAP S/4HANA at its Halewood facility in Merseyside in the UK. This deployment, done in partnership with Tata Technologies, is part of the company’s Integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (IERP) program, aimed at unifying global systems and improving operational efficiency, the company said in a statement.
As part of the implementation, the SAP S/4HANA system is designed to streamline processes across JLR’s manufacturing and business functions, enhancing productivity and decision-making. By integrating Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), the program strengthens the digital thread across JLR’s operations.
Tata Technologies has played a crucial role in supporting the implementation as part of its ongoing partnership with JLR under the ‘Reimagine strategy’. The initiative reflects a broader industry trend of automakers adopting cloud-based solutions to improve collaboration and responsiveness in vehicle development.

In a LinkedIn post on Tuesday, Tata Technologies said, “Tata Technologies is delighted to partner with JLR in their #Reimagine strategy to develop the world’s best #ModernLuxury vehicles and experiences, faster and smarter through advanced digital technologies and solutions.
In our latest milestone together, we’ve successfully deployed the cloud-based SAP S/4HANA system at JLR’s Halewood facility in Merseyside. This implementation marks a critical phase of JLR’s Integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (IERP) program—built to unify global systems, empower teams, and drive operational agility. Recognized as one of the most ambitious digital transformations in the automotive space, this project connects the dots across the PLM, ERP, and MES ecosystem—strengthening the digital thread across JLR’s global network.”
Automotive manufacturers increasingly rely on digital transformation to improve operational efficiency and streamline processes. ERP systems, like SAP S/4HANA on cloud platforms, integrate manufacturing, supply chain, and finance across global facilities. This real-time data exchange minimises delays, accelerates decision-making, and optimises workflows to meet evolving market demands. As companies expand, ERP integration becomes essential for maintaining continuity and competitiveness, believe experts.

In January, JLR expanded its partnership with Tata Communications to enhance connectivity in its upcoming vehicles by integrating Tata Communications’ MOVE platform into JLR’s medium-sized SUVs, based on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) and set to launch in 2026. The partnership aims to offer seamless connectivity across over 120 countries, enabling real-time vehicle tracking, software updates, and improved driver experiences.
In September 2023, TCS and JLR also announced a partnership to transform the latter’s digital estate and build a new, future-ready digital core. The partnership is valued at nearly $1 billion over the next five years.
