Engineering firm Cyient has been chosen to support the development of a green hydrogen production and distribution facility in Bodø, Norway. The project is led by GreenH, a Norwegian hydrogen company, and Luxcara, a German investment firm focused on renewable energy.

The hydrogen plant will be located at Langstranda in Bodø and aims to supply green hydrogen for ferries and heavy transport. The facility is part of a long-term agreement with Torghatten Nord AS, which operates the Vestfjorden ferries – an important part of Norway’s maritime transport system.

Construction on the site began in autumn 2024. The project is seen as a step forward in Norway’s move towards cleaner energy, particularly in the maritime sector.

Cyient will be responsible for detailed plant engineering and will support GreenH through all stages of the project. The company brings experience from similar renewable energy projects, which it hopes will help improve the design and efficiency of the facility.

GreenH’s Chief Operating Officer, Espen Lied, said the partnership with Cyient would help bring the project to life. “With Cyient’s expertise, we’ll complete the detailed engineering of our hydrogen plant and prepare for construction and installation,” he said.

Espen Berg, Managing Director of Cyient Norway, said the project is a significant one for the company. “We are proud to be part of this first-of-its-kind green hydrogen production project for maritime transport. We’re confident our experience will support GreenH and Luxcara in making this a success.”

The hydrogen produced at the facility will be created using renewable energy, offering an alternative to fossil fuels and contributing to a more sustainable transport system in Norway.
