Manipal Hospitals teams up with Google Cloud to streamline healthcare services

Manipal Hospitals has partnered with Google Cloud to improve healthcare services in India using artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cloud technology. Supported by Deloitte, the collaboration is aimed at improving operational efficiency and patient care.
The partnership focuses on developing AI-powered ePharmacy platform. The system, built entirely on Google Cloud, automates drug information management and prescription processing. As a result, the time taken to process pharmacy orders has dropped from 15 minutes to under 5 minutes. The platform processes over 60,000 data entries each day and is currently used by more than 100,000 patients for medication needs, the company said.
The ePharmacy platform uses AI tools from Google Cloud, such as Gemini on Vertex AI, to reduce human error and improve accuracy. Data integration is handled through Cloud Healthcare API and Apigee, which ensures that prescription data is shared in real time. The system also uses Looker for monitoring and improving user interaction, and Google Kubernetes Engine to maintain uninterrupted service even during high demand.

Manipal Hospitals has also introduced an AI-based nurse handoff solution to improve communication between caregivers. Nurse handover times have been reduced from 90 minutes to 20 minutes, improving staff productivity and care quality. The system gives nurses real-time access to patient data, reducing errors during shift changes.
Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country MD, Google Cloud India, said, “Our partnership with Manipal Hospitals aims to improve systemic inefficiencies, elevate patient experiences, and enhance healthcare accessibility, ultimately benefiting healthcare practitioners and patients across India.”
