Indian IT services firm L&T Technology Services (LTTS) on Tuesday launched TrackEi, an AI-powered railway track inspection solution leveraging the NVIDIA Jetson platform to enhance rail network safety and efficiency. TrackEi automates high-speed inspections (over 60 MPH), providing real-time defect detection and predictive maintenance, significantly improving rail infrastructure reliability. This follows LETTS's rail innovation accolades, including the Etihad Rail Innovation Award for real-time visible rail defect detection.

Unlike traditional manual inspections or slow-moving trolleys, TrackEi utilises high-resolution cameras and laser profiling to identify critical defects such as broken rails, cracks, and misalignments. Deep learning algorithms powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing to deliver actionable intelligence and continuously improve detection accuracy.

The NVIDIA Jetson platform enables: on-the-fly processing of massive high-speed image data, minimizing cloud dependency; high-accuracy machine vision via stroboscopic lights, mitigating variable lighting; and continuous learning for sustained performance improvement.

TrackEi’s key differentiators include: real-time defect detection through AI-driven analysis; predictive maintenance based on aggregated inspection data; a scalable, edge-based architecture; seamless integration with existing rolling stock and railway management systems; and enhanced safety and sustainability through early defect detection and optimized maintenance.

"TrackEi redefines railway safety by combining AI, machine vision, and edge computing," said Alind Saxena, Executive Director & President of Mobility & Tech at LTTS. "Powered by NVIDIA Jetson, it enables unparalleled defect detection, optimized maintenance, and reduced downtime."

The launch builds upon LTTS' collaboration with NVIDIA, including a recent AI Experience Zone unveiling, solidifying LTTS' commitment to AI-driven innovation. TrackEi, currently undergoing testing and evaluation at MxV Rail in Pueblo, CO, under the supervision of Dr. Anish Poudel, Scientist (Research & Innovation) and his research team, is accelerated by the NVIDIA Jetson platform and has undergone initial trials with Class-I Railroad customers. MxV Rail is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.
