Tech Mahindra has announced its membership in the AI-RAN Alliance, a global initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Radio Access Networks (RAN) to enhance 5G and future network capabilities. This collaboration is expected to drive the development of AI-driven solutions to improve network efficiency and performance.

The AI-RAN Alliance, established in February 2024, brings together technology companies and academic institutions to transform RAN systems through AI. Founding members include Amazon Web Services, Arm, DeepSig, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, Northeastern University, NVIDIA, Samsung Electronics, SoftBank, and T-Mobile USA. The alliance focuses on three key areas, using AI to improve RAN capabilities, integrating AI into RAN processes for better infrastructure utilisation, and deploying AI services at the network edge to enhance operations and enable new services for mobile users.

Tech Mahindra aims to leverage its expertise in network architecture, AI, Open RAN, and 5G technologies to contribute to AI-powered RAN solutions. The company’s participation aligns with its broader strategy to innovate within the telecom sector and collaborate with industry leaders to shape intelligent networks.

Manish Mangal, Chief Technology Officer, Telecom & Global Business Head, Network Services at Tech Mahindra, said, “AI is no longer a futuristic concept; it is actively shaping networks today. Initiatives like AI-RAN Alliance enable Tech Mahindra to collaborate with telecom operators, vendors, and AI experts to develop cutting-edge, future-ready solutions.”

Other companies have also recently joined the AI-RAN Alliance. Earlier this month, Dell also announced its membership, to advance AI integration in telecommunications. Dell plans to use its AI solutions to enhance network efficiency and performance. Similarly, semiconductor company EdgeCortix joined the alliance in December 2024 to develop energy-efficient AI-RAN systems.
