Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas adopts a host of AI-driven technologies
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, a leading legal advisory firm in India, has adopted an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-first strategy by integrating advanced AI technologies into its legal and business services to boost efficiency and customer services.
The firm said that it is piloting the legal AI platforms Harvey and using Lucio to enhance its lawyers' capabilities, along with Copilot and ChatGPT Plus to optimise business operations. This initiative marks a significant step in the company’s decade-long journey of innovation, building on over 100 years of practice, the company said in a statement.
Since launching its proprietary legal tech incubator, Prarambh, in 2017, CAM has explored AI's potential and is now rapidly embedding it into various operations, said Managing Partner Cyril Shroff.
He added that the initial use cases will include due diligence, fact verification, litigation support, draft preparation, and legal research, while the Business Services team will leverage these tools for knowledge management, business development, HR deployment, and financial analysis. Following initial deployment, the law firm plans to collaborate with AI providers for tailored solutions.
Shroff emphasised that AI will be central to the firm’s future, enhancing efficiency and strategic value for clients. He assured that the firm remains committed to the highest standards of data protection, with robust safeguards and stringent contractual agreements with technology partners to ensure confidentiality and ethical AI use.
Komal Gupta, Chief Innovation Officer, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas added that over the past 8 years since we began with machine learning tools, we have built internal capabilities and learned valuable lessons from our own experiences and global best practices.
The law firm, which aims to reach a headcount of 2,000 employees in the next five years, is further looking to train all its professionals on AI and digital technology at a fundamental level, creating opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and client service excellence.
India’s legal sector has historically been cautious about embracing new technologies, largely due to its reliance on traditional practices and the sensitivity surrounding client data. However, experts see the landscape is shifting as digital transformation becomes not just a competitive edge but also a necessity, especially with AI as a driver and the trend is here to stay.
