KOGO, MapMyIndia bring AI-powered universal voice assistant for auto sector
Bengaluru-based AI firm KOGO partnered with digital mapping company MapMyIndia to launch India’s ‘first' universal voice assistant for the automotive industry. KOGO's CEO, Raj K. Gopalakrishnan told TechCircle that the Universal Voice Assistant is an on-premises, edge-computing solution that integrates KOGO’s agentic AI framework with MapMyIndia’s geo-intelligence technology.
"This technology employs advanced natural language processing and deep learning to understand user commands, interact with vehicle systems like infotainment and navigation, and perform tasks beyond the car, such as placing orders or scheduling services. By processing data within the vehicle, it enhances user privacy and reduces reliance on external servers. KOGO's proprietary agentic mesh technology allows seamless conversation transfer with context and memory between different agents," said Gopalakrishnan.
Furthermore, the assistant transforms in-car interactions and enables app developers to create their own AI agents through the KOGO AI Agent Store. This will help reach millions of vehicle owners in India.
Unlike traditional voice assistants that handle basic commands, the KOGO-MapMyIndia Universal Assistant facilitates natural conversations, internet browsing, and app operations beyond the vehicle, said Gopalakrishnan.
Praveer Kochhar, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at KOGO, emphasised the platform's on-premises design to ensure data security and privacy, aiming to empower vehicle owners with a powerful AI assistant. The platform can easily integrate with automotive manufacturers' existing infrastructure, redefining vehicle-owner interactions through voice control and advanced automation.
Kochar noted that traditional assistants like Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri primarily manage basic commands and rely on cloud services, whereas the KOGO-MapMyIndia Voice Assistant operates on-premises, protecting user data and maintaining functionality with limited connectivity. It also utilizes MapMyIndia’s geo-intelligence for localized, real-time information and offers an open ecosystem for third-party developers to create specialized AI agents.
While pricing details are still being finalised with automotive manufacturers, automakers may pay a licensing fee for core AI integration, with some basic features available for free and premium services offered via subscription. Third-party developers on the KOGO Agent Store could also share revenue with KOGO and OEMs, fostering a sustainable ecosystem, said Kochar.
Looking ahead, KOGO AI and MapMyIndia plan to enhance the platform's capabilities, increase third-party integrations, and explore global markets. According to Gopalakrishnan, the aim to continuously improve the AI’s contextual understanding and multi-agent architecture to adapt to emerging automotive technologies and consumer needs.
The platform launched at the recently concluded Bharat Auto Expo 2025. is currently in beta, with enterprise access expected by mid-February.
