Security and networking company Cisco has launched Cisco AI Defense, a solution aimed at securing enterprise AI applications as businesses increasingly adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

AI advancements bring both opportunities and challenges, including new security risks that existing solutions cannot fully address. Cisco AI Defense is designed to help enterprises develop, deploy, and protect AI applications while mitigating risks, the company said.

Cisco AI Defense focuses on two key areas, securing AI application development and deployment, and monitoring AI usage across enterprises. It identifies sanctioned and unsanctioned AI applications in both public and private cloud environments and performs automated testing to detect potential vulnerabilities.

The system addresses threats like prompt injection, data leakage, and denial-of-service attacks. It also provides tools for security teams to implement policies that prevent data poisoning and protect confidential information. AI Defense offers visibility into enterprise AI usage and enforces compliance by integrating with Cisco’s broader security ecosystem.

Unlike solutions tied to specific AI models, AI Defense supports multiple models and is built into Cisco’s Security Cloud platform. It uses Cisco’s proprietary machine learning models and threat intelligence to adapt to evolving risks.

Jeetu Patel, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer at Cisco, said, “Cisco AI Defense combines the unique ability to detect and protect against threats when developing and accessing AI applications without tradeoffs.”
