Indian IT major Infosys, in partnership with Tennis Australia, the official sponsor of the Australian Open on Wednesday introduced its latest suite of Generative AI-driven features for the Australian Open 2025.

Infosys has served as the tournament's digital innovation partner for the last seven years, enhancing the tennis experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies. Currently, using generative AI (GenAI) technologies through Infosys Topaz, the company's AI-first suite, the initiative seeks to boost fan engagement, optimise player performance, and streamline digital content creation.

Andrew Groth, Executive Vice President - Asia Pacific, emphasises the new interactivity and insights that AI brings to this sport. “Each year at the Australian Open, we have pushed the boundaries of technology to fuel fan engagement and player performance. Through this collaboration with Tennis Australia, we are enabling truly innovative platforms for fans, players, coaches, and media to engage with the sport.”

Notably, 'Beyond Tennis' is being launched as the world's first GenAI-powered tennis league, allowing fans to engage with virtual players, train teams, and participate in AI-generated tournaments. This league is designed to engage younger Gen Z audiences while prioritising their safety in digital environments through a responsible AI framework.

The Australian Open 2025 will also feature AI Commentary in the Infosys Match Centre, providing real-time insights using large language models on both the website and app. The Infosys Fan Zone at Melbourne Park will introduce a VR AI Stadium where fans can create unique virtual courts. Leveraging new GenAI speech-to-image technology, fans can customise their playing environments.

Additionally, Infosys will provide AI, video analytics, and machine learning tools for player analysis and engagement. Features like AI Videos and AI Shot of the Day will support coaches and media teams in creating quick, shareable content.

The Infosys Fan Zone is focused on sustainability, with its carbon footprint offset and recyclable structures. The partnership is also advancing the Future Leaders Program, offering community participants training in leadership, technology, and design thinking while exposing them to a GenAI future.

Last year, Infosys renewed its partnership with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for three more years, applying its digital expertise to improve the fan and player experience.

Tennis Australia continues to explore innovative technologies, including NFTs and a $30 million venture capital fund, AO Ventures, aimed at investing in media and health startups, with future potential for integrating these technologies with traditional live coverage. Australian Open avatars are further facilitating the expansion of tennis to a broader audience. The animated coverage reportedly will incorporate video figures that utilise real-time data, attracting more online viewers.
