Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a Tata Motors subsidiary since 2008, on Tuesday, expanded its partnership with Tata Communications to enhance connectivity in its upcoming vehicles. This collaboration will integrate Tata Communications’ MOVE platform into JLR’s medium-sized SUVs, based on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) and set to launch in 2026.

The partnership aims to offer seamless connectivity across over 120 countries, enabling real-time vehicle tracking, software updates, and improved driver experiences. JLR noted that the MOVE platform will allow vehicles to switch smoothly between mobile networks, ensuring uninterrupted access to services like media streaming and advanced driver assistance systems. It is also expected to support software-over-the-air (SOTA) updates, potentially lowering maintenance costs and improving vehicle diagnostics.

Currently, JLR’s connected vehicle fleet generates about 2.5 terabytes of data daily, with nearly half a million electronic control units updated each month. By utilising Tata Communications’ platform, JLR aims to enhance its data exchange capabilities, giving engineers deeper insights into vehicle performance and facilitating more efficient updates.

Mark Brogden, Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board at JLR, said, "The automotive industry is continuously evolving to meet changing consumer demands. Last year, our digital framework ensured seamless connectivity across all JLR production sites globally. With this extended alliance, we are empowering JLR's software-driven vehicle journey and enabling next-level driving features."

This initiative aligns with JLR’s sustainability and electrification strategy, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2039. The company plans to introduce electric versions of its Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender models by 2030, while Jaguar aims to become an all-electric brand within the same timeframe.

Marco Bijvelds, Vice President at Tata Communications, said, “By leveraging the MOVE platform, we are enabling JLR to deliver advanced driving features and personalised experiences, which are increasingly important to today’s customers.”
