US-based data centre cooling solutions manufacturer Vertiv has announced the expansion of its integrated business services centre in Pune. This new facility will function as a technology and innovation hub, featuring advanced laboratories and infrastructure, and will employ over 1,000 engineers to address global data centre needs.

Headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, Vertiv operates in more than 130 countries, specialising in hardware, software, and services that ensure continuity for critical applications. In India, the company already has facilities in Ambernath and Pune and aims to create local employment opportunities.

Currently, Vertiv India employs over 2,000 people. The new Pune centre will create an additional 1,000 engineering jobs directly and is expected to generate indirect opportunities through partnerships with local suppliers, vendors, and service providers, fostering economic growth and innovation, according to Subhasis Majumdar, Managing Director of Vertiv India.

Majumdar emphasised that India plays a crucial role in the rapidly growing data centre industry, with Vertiv as a key contributor to this growth. He noted that the new centre will not only provide jobs for engineers and support staff but also empower the next generation to contribute to the industry's advancement.

According to a JLL report published in April, India's data centre industry is expected to expand by 678 MW in the next three years, reaching a capacity of 1,400 MW by 2025, making it the 13th largest market globally. Additionally, India Briefing has reported that 45 new data centres, covering a total area of 13 million square feet with a capacity of 1,015 MW, are scheduled for development by 2025. This is projected to drive the industry to a size of $9.27 billion by 2027.

Vertiv CEO Giordano Albertazzi said that the launch of the integrated business services centre enhances the company's presence in India and underscores its commitment to delivering transformative global solutions. He highlighted the opportunities that India and Pune present as global technology and innovation hubs, which are essential for Vertiv's international growth.
