Chennai-based EmbedUR partners with Synaptics to build edge AI devices
US and Chennai-based embedded software engineering firm EmbedUR on Thursday partnered with US-based semiconductor company Synaptics to build an Edge-based artificial intelligence (Edge AI) solution targeted to the Indian market.
The companies plan to develop applications in image segmentation, facial identification and pose estimation. They aim to build low-powered, low-latency AI processing within chips placed inside devices for applications such as smart homes, driver assistance systems, medical monitoring and industrial manufacturing.
EmbedUR said that it has developed the Model Nova AI platform for the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem by offering pre-trained models, and blueprints for real-world applications and datasets, thereby allowing designers to deploy edge-based AI solutions with minimal AI expertise.
With Synaptics’ microcontrollers and processors and its models, the companies plan to build applications catering to businesses' and consumers' use cases over the next few years.
Rajesh Subramaniam, Founder and CEO, embedUR systems. “With Synaptics’ semiconductor expertise and our technical capabilities, we’re confident in delivering solutions that meet India’s unique demands.”
He added that this partnership will make advanced AI technologies more affordable and accessible. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will gain tools to improve efficiency and competitiveness, while underserved regions benefit from intelligent, power-efficient devices for homes, healthcare, and more.
"Chips from large companies cost nearly $10,000 and are expensive to be used in small applications. However, chips from Synaptics would cost $5-$10 and can be used by small companies in different applications," said Michael Hurlston, President and CEO, of Synaptics.
These advancements align with India’s goal of sustainability and technological inclusion, driving growth across industries such as manufacturing and IoT. By addressing local challenges, embedUR systems and Synaptics are paving the way for widespread AI adoption not only in India but on a global scale, he added.
Subramaniam further said that the company is investing capital, and is hiring actively as well as upskilling the teams.
In October, embedUR Systems said that will be investing ₹500 crore in its Chennai facility over the next five years to enhance its capabilities in emerging technologies such as AI/ML, cybersecurity and edge computing. The company aims to increase its employee count from over 300 to 500 by September 2025.
