At its ongoing annual event re:Invent this year, cloud company AWS, made a series of new announcements. It includes new chips, foundational models, and industry partnerships. Here we list some of the highlights from the event:

Amazon Nova

AWS’ new generation of foundational models introduced at the re:Invent is named Nova. Available through Amazon Bedrock, Nova can perform tasks such as document and video analysis, generating video content, and building AI agents at lower cost and latency. Amazon Nova accepts multimodal input — text and image to generate image or video output at industry-competing prices. AWS claims that Nova’s customisation capabilities give it an edge over other similar models in the industry.

It is available in four versions — text-only model Amazon Nova which delivers the lowest latency responses in the Amazon Nova family of models at a very low cost; low-cost multimodal model Nova Lite for processing image, video, and text inputs to generate text output; multimodal model Nova Pro which can be used for range of tasks;  most capable multimodal model for complex reasoning tasks Nova Premium.

Trainium3

At the AWS re:Invent 2024, the company introduced its next generation of AI chips for customers to build bigger models faster and deliver superior real-time performance. Available in the latter part of 2025, Trainium3 will be the first AWS chip made with 3nm process node. Trainium3-powered UltraServers are expected to be four times better in performance than Trn2 UltraServers, allowing customers to iterate even faster when building models and deliver superior real-time performance when deploying them, the company said in a blog.
