Sterlite Technologies appoints new CEO of Optical Networking Business
Sterlite Technologies (STL), an optical fiber maker, has appointed Rahul Puri as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its Optical Networking Business (ONB), effective immediately. Puri previously held the position of Vice President and General Manager for the EMEIA and APAC regions.
Puri brings over 24 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, operations, and product management. He has worked with global technology and telecom companies including Apple, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Reliance, and Airtel across various geographies.
During his tenure at STL, Puri has contributed to the company’s growth by strengthening its presence in global markets and enhancing business in the telecom and technology sectors. His efforts have included establishing long-term agreements with telecommunications providers and forming strategic partnerships with service providers and telecom companies.
In his new role, Puri stated that his focus will be on expanding STL’s footprint in key markets such as the US, EMEA, and India, while pursuing sustainable and profitable growth. He emphasised operational excellence and maintaining strong relationships with customers.
Assuming the new role as CEO of ONB, Rahul Puri said: "Our focus will continue to drive growth across key markets, including the US, EMEA and India. Our strategy emphasizes profitable and sustainable growth, underpinned by a commitment to operational excellence while maintaining deep, impactful connections with our customers."
Puri holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Government Bikram College of Commerce, a Master of Business Administration from University Business School, Panjab University, and has completed a leadership development program at Harvard Business School.
Ankit Agarwal, Managing Director, STL, said: "Puri's industry experience, combined with his global perspective, positions him as a transformative force in shaping the future of telecom and technology. His leadership will be pivotal in driving STL's next phase of growth."
The announcement follows recent changes in STL’s leadership. In June, the company terminated Paul Atkinson, the former CEO of ONB, after reporting a consolidated loss of ₹82 crore for the fourth quarter ending March 2024. Additionally, on November 14, STL announced that David De Craemer, Business Head of Global Optical Connectivity, has resigned to pursue opportunities outside the company.
