Yotta acquires IndiQus to build sovereign AI, cloud capabilities
Hiranandani-owned Yotta Data Services has acquired Delhi-based IndiQus Technologies. The acquisition of IndiQus, the parent organization of cloud platform provider Apiculus, will help strengthen Yotta’s sovereign AI and cloud capabilities. Yotta also aims to reduce dependencies on foreign enterprise for providing digital transformation services.
The deal is expected to enhance Yotta’s cloud and AI services portfolio and assist in the development and delivery of the AI cloud platform. The company hasn’t disclosed the financial details of the deal.
IndiQus Founders Sunando Bhattacharya and K B Shiv Kumar will assume the roles of Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Innovation Officer, respectively, at Yotta. They will be instrumental in helping Yotta achieve cloud dominance, AI leadership, building partnerships, exploring ventures, and securing hyperscaler status through their DevOps capabilities and building on top of their existing Apiculus cloud platform capabilities.
“This acquisition propels Yotta to new heights, solidifying our role as a trailblazer in advancing India's digital transformation through state-of-the-art technology and continued innovation,” said Yotta’s CEO and co-founder Sunil Gupta. “ This synergy will empower businesses to fast-track their innovation, enhance digital infrastructure, and unleash the boundless potential of transformative technologies. The prowess of Apiculus will not only bolster Yotta's capabilities but also serve as a catalyst for the expansion and growth of our Sovereign Cloud and AI services.”
To be sure, Yotta announced last year in December that it had placed an order for over 16,000 of Nvidia’s H100 GPUs which are suited for AI applications. The company has already deployed 4,000 chips, and 8,000 are to be deployed by November.
In an earlier interview with TechCircle, Gupta said that this ease of accessibility and ‘five to six times’ lower cost has made Yotta a favourable choice among Indian AI startups, research labs, and other institutions engaged in similar projects. He further adds that sovereignty is another factor that plays a major role in making Yotta a hit among Indian players, who may be hesitant to host their critical on a foreign cloud infrastructure provider’s platform.
