AWS appoints ex-Accenture exec as President for India and South Asia
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has appointed Sandeep Dutta, a former Accenture India business leader, as its new president for India and South Asia. This announcement comes nearly a year after the resignation of Vaishali Kasture, who served as the interim country head.
Dutta brings over 20 years of experience in IT services, leading major business transformations at Accenture. In addition to his time at Accenture, he spent over five years with PwC India. His academic background includes an MBA from the International Management Institute in New Delhi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Mangalore University.
Jaime Valles, Vice President for Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) at AWS Global Sales, announced Dutta's appointment on LinkedIn on November 4. Valles commented, “Dutta understands the challenges and opportunities facing organizations in India. Known for his thought leadership in disruptive technologies, his strategic vision has helped customers across industries reimagine what’s possible.”
Valles added, “Alongside our AWS APJ team, we’ll work together to help customers harness cloud power, drive cultural transformation, foster digital innovation, and address India’s most ambitious goals and challenges.”
Dutta joins AWS at a time when the company announced its plans to invest $12.7 billion (₹1,05,600 crore) in India by 2030 to build data centres and infrastructure. AWS projects that this investment will add $23.3 billion (₹1,94,700 crore) to India’s GDP and support over 131,700 full-time equivalent jobs annually.
