Sify expands national long-distance network capacity with Ciena Technology
Sify Technologies, an Indian IT and communications provider, has upgraded its National Long Distance (NLD) network using optical technology from US-based Ciena. The upgrade connects seven of Sify's Metro Area Networks across India and increases the network’s capacity to 600G.
This enhanced network will help Sify meet the growing demands of businesses, global cloud providers, and digital enterprises in India, as per the company.
The upgraded network will play a significant role in interconnecting Sify’s major data centers in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida, as well as the surrounding metro areas. These data centers are designed to support the country’s digital infrastructure, including technologies like Artificial Intelligence.
“India is embracing digitization with bandwidth demand skyrocketing from global cloud providers and digital enterprises. Using Ciena’s optical technology, we’ve doubled our network capacity to 600G. This will be offered via Ciena’s line system, which can support both C and L band transponders,” said Harsha Ram, Head of Network Business, Sify.
“Ciena has been working closely with Sify to create an adaptive network that can deliver transformative business connectivity to enterprises and cloud providers across India. Leveraging Ciena’s optical prowess, Sify can scale as required to deliver more capacity for any distance application, supporting its customers’ digital ambitions,” said Amit Malik, Vice President, Ciena India.
Ciena’s role includes providing its 6500 Reconfigurable Line System and Waveserver 5, both powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme optics. These systems are essential for enhancing the network’s scalability and performance. Ciena is also delivering strategic consulting and maintenance services to ensure a smooth implementation and ongoing support. In addition, Sify is utilizing Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite for real-time control and monitoring of the network.
