The southern city of Bengaluru has emerged as the most prominent hub for global capability centers (GCCs) in India for the first two-quarters of FY25. As per a report by Teamlease Digital, the GCCs in the city have spread across domains such as high-tech, professional services like banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and consulting, and manufacturing, among others.

While Bengaluru leads the race in terms of GCC concentration, Hyderabad excels in the number of hi-tech GCCs, with 45% of the headcount available in the city. GCCs in Hyderabad function in digital transformation operations, leveraging advancements in Cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, blockchain, and Data Analytics to enhance global operations. The focus on automation and emerging technologies like robotics and blockchain underlines Hyderabad's role as a leader in tech innovation, the report said.

The Mumbai/Pune region accounts for 31% of TeamLease Digital’s GCC partnerships, led by the high-tech (33%) and automotive (22%) sectors, with Pune emerging as a key driver in automotive. Further, Delhi-NCR contributes 22% to the GCC headcount, with Software & Platform and High Tech each at 20%, and a notable 6.5% in Oil & Gas. In-demand skills include AWS, Azure, Data Modelling, and internet of things (IoT) platforms.

“Sectors like Healthcare, BFSI, and Retail have shown remarkable growth. Between 2021 and 2023, these sectors recorded CAGR exceeding 30%. This growth is particularly notable, given that during the same period, the broader IT industry was experiencing a downturn," said Neeti Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, TeamLease Digital.

In contrast, the GCC Software & Internet sector maintained steady progress and is projected to reach a CAGR of 6.2% by 2027, she added.

Notably, India has emerged as a key player in global technology innovation. ANSR’s quarterly report on GCCs, which was released in September, corroborates this. Over 78% of new GCCs established during the study period prioritise building capabilities in AI, machine learning, and data analytics. This trend is also seen in existing centers expanding their operations. GCCs are also leading the way in adopting advanced digital capabilities like cloud, cybersecurity, and robotics process automation (RPA), the report found.
