Manish Tiwary to resign as head of Amazon India
Manish Tiwary is stepping down from the post of Amazon India head. His departure from the company comes eight years after he joined the company in 2016 as the vice president (VP) and climbed up the ranks to become the country manager in 2020.
“Manish Tiwary, Country Manager for Amazon India, has decided to pursue an opportunity outside of the company. Manish’s leadership over the last eight years has been instrumental in delivering for customers and sellers, making Amazon.in the preferred marketplace in India. Manish will continue with Amazon until October to help ensure a smooth transition,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
While Tiwary’s successor hasn’t been named yet, Amit Agarwal, senior VP India and Emerging Markets “will remain closely involved with the Amazon India team, guiding its strong bench of leaders to deliver on this opportunity,” the spokesperson added. “India is an important priority for Amazon. We are excited by the momentum and business results we have already achieved, and we are even more optimistic about the significant opportunities ahead to innovate on behalf of our customers and digitally transform lives and livelihoods.”
Amazon’s cloud business Amazon Web Services (AWS) in India saw major exits last year. Puneet Chandok, the India and South Asia head for AWS exited the company in August 2023. Vaishali Kasture, the then head of enterprise for mid-market and global businesses at AWS India and South Asia interimly took on the role of commercial business for the unit. However, Kasture stepped down just seven months into the role.
To date, AWS has announced an investment of $16.4 billion in India by 2030, which includes a $12.87 billion commitment made in May 2023.
