Barracuda Networks, a cybersecurity company based in the US, has expanded its email security products for Indian enterprises, the company said on Thursday.

These new solutions aim to assist businesses in complying with the country's data protection regulations by offering advanced email protection, data classification, and email archiving services. Moreover, customer data can now be stored in Amazon Web Services (AWS) located in India, it said.

This new data residency choice is tailored to meet India's escalating security and compliance demands amidst its rapidly growing digital economy. It will particularly benefit organizations in heavily regulated sectors like healthcare, finance, and the public domain by providing defence against email-borne cyber-attacks and facilitating automatic data scrutiny in Microsoft 365 OneDrive and SharePoint.

"India is a flourishing centre of digital transformation and innovation, making it a prime target for cyber threats," remarked Parag Khurana, India's Country Manager at Barracuda.

According to a report released by the company in May, there has been a concerning surge in email-based attacks, with cybercriminals increasingly employing generative artificial intelligence to create convincing and sophisticated phishing and business email compromise attacks.

The Top Email Threats and Trends Report, analyzing 69 million email-based attacks across 4.5 million mailboxes over a year, highlighted that scamming and phishing emails now constitute 86% of social engineering attacks. Business Email Communications (BEC) attacks make up 10.6% of these incidents, while conversation hijacking cases have risen by 70% since 2022.

Khurana noted that in India, a majority of CEOs rank cloud-related threats as their top concern. "We are aiding companies in addressing this worry and supporting them in adhering to current regulations such as the DPDPA. The new data residency in India allows us to broaden the reach of our cloud-based email protection and archiving to a larger customer base throughout the nation."

Barracuda’s advanced security portfolio can help companies comply with DPDPA requirements for data protection, threat mitigation, and secure access to personal data, as well as data retention, documentation, and retrieval requirements, the company said.

Not just Barracuda, Check Point Software, a cyber-security provider, in April announced the release of new email security features, boosting its email portfolio to enhance collaborative email security to combat cyber-attacks. These additions ensure high-end protection against sophisticated threats from a single screen.
