HCLTech establishes IBM watsonx based CoE, to train 10k engineers

HCLTech is establishing a Generative AI Center of Excellence (Gen AI CoE) in collaboration with IBM. The facility will be based on IBM’s generative AI suite of services watsonx AI and data platform. It is expected to help enterprises modernise legacy applications, develop IT service management (ITSM) use cases, reduce coding complexity, and improve skill development on IBM’s platform.

The CoE will be available through HCLTech’s AI and Cloud Native Labs in Noida, London and New Jersey and Santa Clara in the US. It will offer access to education and training resources covering diverse AI technologies and provide a platform for building use cases. Together with IBM, HCLTech aims to train 10,000 of its engineers and architects in IBM's innovative AI technologies, specifically watsonx.

“This expansion of our work with IBM will facilitate rapid exploration of AI’s potential as we create highly differentiated HCLTech offerings using the latest IBM technology. We plan to embed watsonx in HCLTech AI Force with GenAI-powered solutions to support code modernisation,” said Alan Flower, EVP, Global Head, AI & Cloud Native Labs, HCLTech. To be sure, HCLTech AI Force is a suite of GenAI-powered solutions designed for software and engineering workflows.

In a separate but related news, IBM on Saturday announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat to establish and promote an AI Cluster. This cluster will leverage IBM watsonx to foster innovation and collaboration among financial institutions in Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. Financial institutions in GIFT City will gain access to AI Sandbox, assistance in providing proof of concept, AI Literacy programs, and Digital Assistant Solutions.
