Business process automation software firm Automation Anywhere on Wednesday launched a new tool, dubbed, AI + Automation Enterprise System that incorporates the latest advances in generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) with its products.

The new offering was announced at Imagine 2024 and is built around a series of new AI agents created using the company’s own AI Agent Studio platform. The company said, these agents accelerate process discovery, speed up the development and deployment of more powerful automation, and can increase business efficiency, driving significant productivity gains and cost savings.

Automation Anywhere is a leading provider in the field of robotic process automation or RPA, which is AI-powered software designed to mimic the actions of human workers. RPA tools are used to automate mundane and repetitive business processes like data entry, allowing humans to focus on higher-value tasks.

The company said that the new AI + Automation Enterprise System is designed to elevate automation to the next level. The new enterprise AI agents can create more advanced RPA bots capable of handling complex tasks that require greater cognitive skills. They learn from enterprise data, make appropriate decisions, and take action across any enterprise system of record.

Automation Anywhere co-founder and Chief Executive Mithir Shukla said, “Every enterprise today is under pressure to work smarter, not harder, and to be more productive and efficient. He said, “Automation has taken us part of the way there. AI Agent-powered automation is the breakthrough that will take us beyond that, to automate the seemingly impossible.”

According to the company, what sets Automation Anywhere’s next-generation enterprise AI agents apart is that they are infused with generative AI, giving them the ability to expand process automation beyond rules-based work. They combine AI and action to tackle more complex tasks, such as identifying and replacing products in case of stock shortages. Furthermore, they can learn and adapt as they mature, allowing them to automate complex tasks more rapidly over time.

It said that customers can design their own automations using the new AI Agent Studio, a low-code environment for building, managing, and governing customized generative AI agents that can handle cognitive tasks.

The company has also implemented enhanced security and governance controls to safeguard corporate data and monitor the outputs of those models. These tools include guardrails to ensure consistency and prompt testing to limit AI hallucinations, which occur when AI fabricates responses.

In addition to the AI Agent Studio, customers can utilise pre-built AI Agents like the new Document Automation agent, capable of processing any type of document in real-time, including unstructured documents. It can extract and summarize information, including data from complex tables within those files, and use the insights gathered to perform various tasks.

Furthermore, the company introduced a new Automator AI tool designed to expedite automation development lifecycles. This tool's underlying engine is powered by the company’s proprietary generative AI process models and can be enhanced with third-party large language models and fine-tuned with additional data.

Automator AI features an autopilot that can transform natural language commands into automation process flows, reducing development times by up to 30%. It enables users to swiftly convert process documentation into a draft automation powered by generative AI, moving from discovery to automation rapidly.

The event also saw the announcement of a new Automation Co-Pilot that is different from Automator AI’s autopilot, intended to handle conversational automation requests from users. Currently available in preview, it has been integrated with Amazon Q to provide real-time, on-demand assistance, helping workers find the information they need or request automation for specific tasks.

The updates announced today will help Automation Anywhere’s customers maximise their existing AI investments, according to International Data Corporation's analyst Maureen Fleming.

“These latest enhancements make AI-powered automation even more accessible, empowering organisations and employees to leverage AI in new ways, enabling them to work smarter than ever before,” she said.

From revolutionising customer service to empowering data-driven decision-making, streamlining supply chain management, to fortifying cybersecurity, the possibilities of AI-powered automation are limitless and is becoming an enterprise imperative.

Gartner's Competitive Landscape: Business Process Automation report published in March, forecast that by 2025, 70% of enterprises in all industries will have engaged digital business model transformation services to implement analytics-driven business decisions and management capabilities.
