Commvault strengthens cyber resilience with acquisition of Appranix
In a move aimed at enhancing cyber resilience capabilities, cyber resilience and data protection solutions for the hybrid cloud provider Commvault has announced its acquisition of Appranix, a leading provider of cloud cyber resilience technology. This acquisition underscores Commvault's commitment to assisting businesses in minimizing downtime and expediting recovery processes following cyberattacks or system failures.
Appranix is renowned for its Cloud Resilience Copilot, a cutting-edge technology that surpasses conventional backup and disaster recovery solutions. The Cloud Resilience Copilot offers cloud recovery assurance by facilitating the reconstruction of cloud applications post-ransomware attacks or outages.
Key features of the Cloud Resilience Copilot include continuous automated discovery and mapping of cloud resources, eliminating the need for agents by seamlessly detecting multiple multi-cloud accounts. It ensures the continuous backup of cloud configurations and dependencies in an immutable vault, safeguarding against outages and malicious attacks. Additionally, the technology enables comparison of cloud configurations across different points in time to identify any deviations.
While specific financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Commvault has emphasized the profitability and credibility of Appranix. Notable clients of Appranix include prominent brands such as Live Nation and Norwegian Cruise Line.
Although Commvault executives were unavailable for direct comments, Tim Zonca, Vice President of Portfolio Marketing at Commvault, highlighted the significance of the acquisition. Zonca emphasized that while Commvault already offers robust cyber resilience capabilities, Appranix will elevate this aspect by automating the process of rebuilding cloud applications, potentially reducing recovery time from days to mere hours or minutes.
The integration of Appranix's technology into Commvault's portfolio is expected to be completed by the summer, with the Appranix team swiftly joining Commvault. Until then, customers can leverage Appranix's offerings through major cloud marketplaces including AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
This strategic acquisition signifies Commvault's commitment to providing comprehensive cyber resilience solutions, covering risk mitigation, readiness assessment, rapid recovery, and infrastructure rebuilding. With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated, such initiatives are pivotal in safeguarding businesses against potential disruptions and ensuring uninterrupted operations.
