Wipro appoints Malay Joshi to succeed Srini Pallia as CEO-Americas 1
IT services company Wipro has appointed Malay Joshi as the chief executive officer of Americas 1 strategic market unit, effective immediately. Joshi will also be part of Wipro’s executive board and based out of Wipro’s New York City office. Joshi succeeds Srini Pallia in this role, who was appointed as the company’s CEO and managing director on April 6 after Thierry Delaporte stepped down from the position.
Like Pallia, Joshi is also a Wipro veteran, having worked in the company for the last 28 years. In his previous role, Joshi was the senior vice president and head of Wipro’s largest business unit which handles communication, media, tech, retail, travel, hospitality, and public sector. In this role, he was responsible for enterprise transformation, client experience, delivery, and revenue.
“Malay has been leading one of the largest business units at Wipro and has delivered the highest CAGR over a decade across multiple global businesses,” said Pallia. “His client-centricity and deep understanding of the industry make him an ideal fit to lead Americas one strategic market. He is the perfect leader to take the helm of this fast-growing market and write its next chapter of our growth.”
Malay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Engineering and has graduated from Harvard Business School’s Leading Global Businesses Executive Program and Advanced Program Management from Stanford University.
As of its Q3FY24 earnings, the Azim Premji promoted firm reported a 12% year-on-year (YoY) decline in profit for the fourth consecutive quarter, amounting to Rs 2,694 crore. The company also adjusted its revenue growth guidance for the fourth quarter, revising it from -1.5% to 0.5%. This adjustment followed a previous guidance cut from -3.5% to -1.5% in the previous quarter. Amid such a situation, Frenchman Delaporte’s exit from the company hardly came as a surprise.
To be sure, Wipro has seen several top-level departures in recent times. Last year alone, over 10 senior leadership members left the company, including chief growth officer Stephanie Trautman, chief financial officer Jatin Dalal, and chief operations officer Sanjeev Singh.
