The pressing issues of artificial intelligence (AI), data center modernisation, environmental sustainability, and data protection are driving growth in the storage market across Asia.

According to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker 2023 Q3 Forecast (December 2023 Release), the external OEM storage market in Asia is anticipated to grow from US$9.4 billion in 2024 to US$10.9 billion in 2027. Pure Storage exhibited the fastest year-on-year growth of 46.6% in calendar Q3 last year across key markets like Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, as per IDC's data.

Cynthia Ho, Associate Research Director, Enterprise Infrastructure, IDC Asia Pacific, noted that despite a slowdown in the external storage market in 2023, IDC remains confident in witnessing a rebound in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan and ANZ) within the next 12 to 24 months. The escalating growth of data and the increasing need for data protection are driving demand for agile and resilient storage infrastructure as enterprises intensify their digital efforts to stay competitive in the market landscape.
