There have been multiple developments this week on the tech front. From Qlik’s acquisition to Foxconn-HCL joint venture, this is the list of the most important developments for a quick catch-up:
Samsung brings Gemini to smartphones
Google’s multimodal large language model Gemini Pro, along with generative artificial intelligence-based Imagen tool will be deployed on Samsung smartphones. At its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17, Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud announced a multi-year partnership to bring latter’s generative AI capabilities to the company’s smartphone users, starting with Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
We’re thrilled that the Galaxy S24 series is the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI,” said Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.
Foxconn-HCL JV
Taiwanese chipmaker Foxconn has partnered with HCL Group to form a joint venture that will establish a semiconductor assemble and testing facility in India. Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development, a unit of the Taiwanese contract manufacturer, would own a 40% stake in the JV with a $37.2 million investment, as per regulatory filing.
India-EU MoU
This week, the Union Cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 21, 2023 between the Government of Republic of India and the European Commission on Working Arrangements on Semiconductors Ecosystems, its supply chain and innovation under the framework of EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC). The MoU intends to strengthen cooperation between India and EU towards enhancement of semiconductor for the advancement of Industries and digital technologies.
Qlik’s acquisition
Business analytics company Qlik has announced the acquisition of artificial intelligence platform Kyndi. A specialist in natural language processing, search, and generative AI, Kyndi is expected to enhance Qlik's ability to interpret and process unstructured data.
This acquisition will combine Qlik Cloud’s structured data expertise with Kyndi’s unstructured data technologies to provide precise and contextually-rich answers to complex business questions. As part of the deal, Kyndi's CEO and ‘leading AI experts’ (number hasn’t been specified) will join Qlik.
