Lenovo appoints former Intel exec as SVP of intelligent device group
Lenovo has appointed Steve Long as the new senior vice president of Intelligent Devices Group (IDG), effective from February 26. Long is replacing Marco Andresen, who will now continue his position as the chief operating officer for IDG. Long will relocate his base from Singapore to Raleigh, North Carolina and will report to Lenovo IDG President, Luca Rossi.
In this role, Long will oversee IDG’s end-to-end commercial business, including strategy and profit and loss responsibilities. His team will collaborate across global markets for product strategies and roadmaps. He will also work in areas of original equipment manufacturing (OEM). education, and cybersecurity.
The news of Long’s appointment at Lenovo comes just a day after he announced his exit from Intel as the corporate vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ). Long on Tuesday made a post on professional networking platform LinkedIn, where he wrote that he will be exiting the chipmaker after a stint of 24 years.
“I love Intel, the company strategy is on track & Asia-Pacific-Japan is one of the best jobs in the industry… but settling for stability & certainty has never been my thing. My hunger to learn/grow, with an innate ambition to pursue has led me to making the hardest decision of my life... deciding to leave, after such a long period of time,” he wrote. Long also mentioned that during his time at the company, he worked across ‘dozens’ of roles, spanning multiple locations around the world.
Intel is yet to announce Long’s replacement, but as per a Moneycontrol report, Santhosh Viswanathan, the vice president and India managing director will be taking over his responsibilities in the interim. Intel India is the largest R&D site of the chipmaker outside of the US. It employs about 14,000 people in the country and has invested about $9 billion over the years.
