Data analytics company Qlik has announced the acquisition of artificial intelligence-based data management firm Mozaic Data. With this deal, Qlik expects to offer simplified data handling techniques to businesses, focused on a data product-oriented approach for better data quality and governance.

The acquisition will accelerate data deployment and utilisation across enterprises, particularly in platforms like Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Microsoft Fabric, and Snowflake. Mozaic’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution data product experience is based on decentralised architecture which has helped organisations to build, deploy, and manage domain-centric data products in the cloud.

The founder Mozaic, Sharad Kumar will now join Qlik as the regional head of data integration and quality, and work towards developing a next-generation data product catalog solution and allowing customers to extract more value from their data quickly and effectively.

“The acquisition of Mozaic and Sharad’s expertise is a pivotal step in reshaping the data landscape, and is a significant contribution to our ongoing work for 2024. Customers recognise the importance of treating data as a product — a strategy that aligns with the need for a SaaS-based Data Product Catalog, offering a more efficient and user-friendly experience in data lifecycle management, while also reinforcing a solid foundation for AI-driven data management,” said Drew Clarke, General Manager, Data Business Unit at Qlik.

To be sure, Qlik announced in May that it has closed its acquisition of Talend, a data management company, adding new capabilities to its growing data integration platform. Qlik's expertise in data integration, analytics, AI and machine learning combined with Talend's data integration and data quality solutions, will provide customers the most comprehensive solution in the industry, a company spokesperson had then said.
