LTIMindtree installs quantum-safe VPN at London premises

Technology consulting firm LTIMindtree has launched a state-of-the-art Quantum-Safe Virtual Private Network (VPN) link at its London premises. The platform was built in close collaboration with partners Quantum Xchange and Fortinet. This new installation is being done in view of establishing quantum-safe communications where the data is protected from the harvest now, decrypt later (HNDL) threat. 

To be sure, HNDL is an approach adopted by attackers to collect encrypted data now with the motive of decrypting it in the future when quantum computers are powerful enough to crack existing encryption methods. It is based on the idea that data collected today could be exploited in future when relevant quantum computing power is available. While the existing quantum computers may not be advanced enough to hack through complex encryption techniques, HNDL is considered a very real threat and calls for quantum-safe cybersecurity mechanisms. 

LTIMindtree’s Quantum Safe VPN is a practical application of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) within a live network using quantum-based key generation and out-of-band key delivery. Quantum Xchange provides quantum hardware and software for generation, distribution, and management of quantum keys. Fortinet on the other hand integrates quantum-safe keys with standards-based VPN protocols.
