MongoDB appoints Jim Scharf as its new Chief Technology Officer
Database management company MongoDB has recently appointed Jim Scharf as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
In his new role, Scharf will be responsible for leading MongoDB's global engineering team, collaborating with senior leaders to define and implement the company's technical vision and strategy, as well as overseeing the development and delivery of MongoDB's products and services, the company said.
Scharf comes to MongoDB with a wealth of experience, having spent 17 years at Amazon Web Services (AWS). During his tenure at AWS, he played a pivotal role in driving substantial growth and overseeing various departments, including product management, software engineering, security, operations, and solutions architecture, resulting in the success of several products and services.
As one of the earliest employees at AWS, Scharf was instrumental in founding six services, served as General Manager for Amazon DynamoDB, and held the position of Vice President of AWS Identity. Additionally, he holds 20 U.S. patents related to cloud computing, earned during his time at AWS, and has worked in various software engineering and technology consulting roles in the past.
Dev Ittycheria, President and CEO of MongoDB, said, “Jim is a seasoned technologist and leader with a successful track record of building and scaling the teams, processes, and technologies behind the sophisticated software millions of customers rely on every day. Given his experience, I am confident that Jim's leadership will accelerate the pace of innovation at MongoDB and enable our developer data platform to further expand in exciting new areas such as AI, edge computing, and beyond."
"Developers love building on MongoDB because it eliminates the complexity of managing multiple types of data and makes it easy to run applications anywhere—across edge devices, on-premises infrastructure, and major cloud providers," said Scharf. "I'm thrilled to build upon MongoDB's track record of developing highly trusted products and services that startups and enterprises alike love, and I look forward to working with the engineering team and leaders across the company to deliver technology that empowers organizations to embrace the next shifts in technology."
