IT veteran Shiv Kumar Bhasin joins IndusInd Bank as chief transformation officer

Technology veteran and former chief technology of National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), Shiv Kumar Bhasin, on Monday, has been appointed as chief transformation officer at IndusInd Bank.

Bhasin stepped down from India’s leading stock exchange in June this year, where he served as executive vice president (EVP) and Group chief technology and operations officer (CTO-COO) for more than four years.

In his new role as chief transformation officer at the bank, he will work directly with the MD-CEO’s office, with a mandate for technology and business solutions for the bank.
Bhasin has nearly three decades of extensive experience in the banking and financial services industry, and is recognised by his peers in the IT and BFSI sector as a “transformative leader”, as per his LinkedIn post’s review and recommendation.

Prior to NSE, he led IT strategy and technology initiatives in Fortune 500 companies such as State Bank of India, Barclays, and Fidelity Investments as well.

As the EVP and CTO at NSE, he was instrumental in making the exchange a strong, resilient, and scalable platform by leveraging agile, cutting-edge and cognitive technologies to enhance the performance, security, and efficiency of the exchange.

During his tenure as the global CTO of State Bank of India (SBI), he built a digital banking and services platform, Yono, which was a first of its kind in India. SBI, which reportedly became the first digital bank in the world to break even in less than two years, said that Yono acquired more than 50 million new customers in less than 24 months and achieved a valuation of $80 billion.

Bhasin completed master of technology (M.Tech) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, followed by an advanced programme in management from the Stanford University as well as advanced financial engineering in risk modelling, financial mathematics from Columbia University, US. Bhasin is a TEDx speaker, a member of various corporate boards, and a holder of patents.
