ABB India to offer automation for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel's Hazira plant
ABB India on Friday said it will provide electrification and automation systems for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India's (AM/NS India) advanced steel cold rolling mill (CRM) in Hazira, Gujarat.
The contract comes through John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL), the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the project.
ABB India will provide electrification and automation systems, including the ABB Ability System 800xA distributed control system (DCS) and associated equipment and components, that will increase energy efficiency, optimize zinc consumption, and provide high levels of corrosion resistance throughout the steel production process, the company said.
Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) said, “The new processing lines are designed to produce new-age value-added steel, embedding the most demanding quality standards. This expansion will help us meet the growing demand for high-end steel, while also enhancing our portfolio of value-added, sustainable steel.”
AM/NS India unveiled its plans to establish a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) at its Hazira plant in 2022. The aim of this CRM is to produce value-added products at its Hazira plant, as part of the company's Rs 8,500-crore downstream expansion plan.
The upcoming CRM, along with its advanced processing lines, is scheduled to be commissioned in 2024.
AM/NS India, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, operates downstream facilities with a capacity of 9 million metric tons per year. They offer a wide range of flat steel products, including value-added steel, and have a pellet capacity of 20 million metric tons.
In a recent announcement, AMNS India shared its plans to invest $7.4 billion. This investment will focus on expanding their production capacity, enhancing value-added capabilities, and improving their iron ore production capabilities.
