Episode 4: Accelerate with 4th Gen Intel Xeon Processors | A Video Series

Many CEOs have changed their outlook on cloud computing, essentially going from “following CIO recommendations” to “I want to be all in.” Companies are now focusing on developing the right application patterns - code base that can be applied to multiple applications or use cases and putting in place a strong cloud economics capability - FinOps.

This transformation necessitates the establishment of a strong Cloud Foundation. In Episode 4 titled “Cloud and chaos: Is there a clear path to follow?” of the video series "Accelerate with 4th Gen Intel Xeon Processors," created in collaboration with Intel and TechCircle, Sangeeta Roy, Director - Software & Services Partner Business, Sales and Marketing Group at Intel India, engages in a discussion with Bhavesh Goswami, Founder & CEO of Cloudthat, to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with cloud adoption.

According to Saumer Phukan, migration to the cloud can be hasty and chaotic, highlighting the need for careful planning and execution. When asked about the challenges of adopting the cloud, Sangeeta Roy emphasizes technical hurdles such as setting up cloud programs, revamping existing architectures, and minimizing disruptions to ongoing workloads and processes. These obstacles often lead IT leaders to treat cloud initiatives as simple IT projects until they realize the escalating costs or the lack of control over annual cloud spending.

To address this issue, organizations must establish a strong understanding of cloud unit economics and leverage it to align specific business outcomes with the corresponding cloud costs. This approach allows them to determine the worthiness of their cloud investments, thereby calling for the adoption of robust FinOps practices.

Cloud foundations have the objective of managing risks, expediting change, and establishing suitable levels of isolation. The deployment of code artifacts promotes the secure and standardized development of applications. Three commonly used approaches for this purpose include "Security as a code," "Policy as a code," and "Compliance as a code." By implementing appropriate isolations of CSP services, infrastructure, identity and access management, and network, organizations can mitigate risks while driving significant transformation.
