Web Werks, a data center provider in India, which entered into a joint venture (JV) partnership with American IT services provider Iron Mountain, has announced  the launch its first data center (HYD-1) on its campus in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Located in the Kondapur region in Hyderabad, HYD-1 is a Tier III-designed data center that can support up to 5.5MW of IT load within a 120,000 square feet facility.   

In 2021, Iron Mountain formed the joint venture with Web Werk. The JV planned to invest around Rs 7,500 crore to set up data centres in India’s major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Noida by 2026. It also aimed to take its total India capacity to 200MW from 40MW at present.

In February this year, Web Werks-Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC) JV has opened MUM-2, its first greenfield data centre in Navi Mumbai. In March this year, the JV launched BLR-1 (in Bengaluru) data center in Whitefield area.

The HYD-1 data center, which is now live almost a year after the acquisition of a standalone commercial facility, is expected to strengthen the JV’s presence within the southern region of India and will help in bringing new capacity online for its customers.    

 “The Telangana government is building new IT hubs in five districts in the state, and Hyderabad has a connectivity ecosystem that will cater to the digital demands of the region. Hyderabad is a major technology hub, and is fast becoming an important data center market in India,” Nikhil Rathi, Founder & CEO, Web Werks said in a statement. 

Rathi informed that the Web Werks–Iron Mountain JV will offer customers easy cloud and carrier access, driven by hyperscale demand for an improved connectivity-rich ecosystem in Hyderabad.”

With 138 data centres, India is currently the world’s 13th largest market. According to reports by ANAROCK-Binswanger, that offers advisory, brokerage and transaction services, more than 45 new data centres covering 13 million square feet and 1,015 (megawatt) MW of capacity, are expected to come up by the end of 2025. According to Arizton Advisory & Intelligence, a Chicago-based market research firm, India’s data centre market was valued at $4.35 billion in 2021 and will reach $10.09 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 15.07% during 2022-2027.
