Tata AIG General Insurance Company Limited, a general insurance company and a joint venture between the Tata Group and American International Group, has appointed Anjani Kumar as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and executive vice president (EVP).

Kumar joins from Strides, a pharmaceutical company, where he served as chief information officer (CIO) for over three years driving the company’s digital agenda.

In a career spanning 24 years, he has served in IT consulting, telecom, automobile, logistics, and pharmaceutical industries. In the recent past, he held technology and operations leadership roles at Nissan, Strides, and Safexpress as well as profit and loss (P&L) for products and services at IBM and Collabera.

Before moving to corporate leadership roles, Kumar had 14 years accelerated tenure (including seven years in the US) at IBM, including establishing Digital Business Unit in 2012 with profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities. He has also established and managed captive digital centre for capability building, re-skilling, hiring, retention and overall operation.

Kumar, who has won several awards and accolades from some of India’s top media houses, completed post-graduation in marketing and management from the Indiana University's Kelly School of Business in the US and an executive programme from London School of Business, specialising in AI. He has also pursued an AI/ML lab training programme from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. 

With more than 1.76 crore customers, and 7,900 employees spread across 200 offices across India, Tata AIG is one of the biggest general insurance providers in the country. In October 2022, the company has said that it is increasing its digital footprints across business front-ends (Sales, Channel Management, Customer Service, Claims). The company also said that its entire digital frontend systems are built on cloud-first microservices architecture.
