Team messaging and collaboration platform Slack is rolling out Slack Canvas, a new surface for clutter-free collaboration for creating, organising, and information sharing within the team. Teams will be able to track action items, take meeting notes, share links and resources, and create an overview for a channel with FAQs.

Canvas can work with anything from text and files to rich media, captured through a single view. Users may include link unfurls and get a preview of records like Salesforce Customer 360. When paired with the Slack platform, users can also embed no-code workflows inside Canvas to increase the discoverability of automation while giving more context.

Canvas can also be paired with any channel and conversation to centralise information. Users will be able to store content and reference it at any time.

“Slack Canvas is beginning to roll out today and will be available to all Slack users in the coming months. Customers on paid plans will have access to both standalone canvases and canvases that exist as part of channels and DMs. Free teams can also enjoy access to canvases in channels and DMs,” a company statement said.

To be sure, Canvas was first introduced by Slack at its developer conference last year as a new feature that will let users create and edit docs within the Slack interface.

Slack, which was acquired by Salesforce in 2021 for over $27 billion, has recently made an announcement related to incorporating generative AI. In March, Salesforce and OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Slack to deliver instant conversation summaries, writing assistance, and research tools directly on the platform.
