Technology firm Oracle has teamed up with online and video meeting platform Zoom to deliver faster, easier and more effective telehealth services to patients worldwide, the companies announced on Tuesday at the 2023 HIMSS Global Health Conference held in Chicago this week.

In April 2020, Oracle became the cloud infrastructure provider for Zoom and the latter has already enabled millions of simultaneous meeting participants on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The surge in demand for telehealth services during the Covid-19 pandemic has led Zoom to select Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to support its operations, the companies said.

As part of their extended partnership, providers using Oracle Cerner Millennium, a Java and cloud-based solution suitable for small to midsize medical practices, will be able to record updates from visits and upload them into a patient's electronic health record (EHR), according to a press release from Oracle.

“Globally, the need for secure, convenient, and on demand telehealth services is only growing,” said Stephanie Trunzo, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Health. “Integrating Zoom with Oracle Cerner Millennium is an important step in advancing telehealth options and giving patients increased options for care. This unified system enables caregivers to better engage and serve patients even when they are remote, helping reduce practitioner’s administrative burden and increasing access to care.”

Heidi West, Head of Healthcare, Zoom said that the partnership will make it easier for doctors to incorporate telemedicine into their practice to enhance the patient experience while reducing administrative overhead.

At this week’s HIMSS 2023, Oracle also announced an expanded partnership with consulting firm Deloitte for supporting patient-driven digital healthcare delivery. As a long-time Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) member, the collaboration includes Deloitte's advisory services for Oracle, such as assisting health care organisations as they implement, operate and support a modern EHR platform, migrate to cloud and improve performance and automate workflows.
