ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India partners with IBM for cloud-powered transformation

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel) has partnered with IBM Consulting to digitally transform its operations. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India will tap on IBM’s business transformation capabilities and expertise in the metal and mining industry to develop into a data-driven enterprise.

To migrate the existing data and application of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, Dubai, and Indonesia from older SAP platforms into a single SAP S/4HANA instance, IBM leveraged Rapid Move for SAP S/4HANA approach. This approach would enable ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel to gain newer functionalities of the modern platform and enable faster value realisation. Additionally, IBM Consulting has revamped the enterprise structure and existing solutions to resolve several business-critical pain points.

“By collaborating with IBM Consulting for SAP S/4 HANA, we are looking to build a Digital Core Platform for AM/NS India. This initiative will provide the requisite financial transparency, and operational agility to help us chart the next crucial phase of growth while setting precedence in the industry,” said Amit Harlalka, chief financial officer, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India).

AM/NS India is an integrated flat steel manufacturer with over 600 steel grades. It serves multiple industries and key markets through its India, Indonesia, and Dubai business entities. As per the company statement, the company is looking at transforming business processes for scalability and flexibility as it plans capacity expansion.

IBM Consulting has 11 Client Innovation Centers in India. The eleventh center was inaugurated in October last year at Bhubneshwar in Odisha. IBM Consulting is already operating from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, National Capital Region, Pune, Mysuru, Kochi, and Coimbatore.
