Just weeks after Microsoft launched GPT-4 powered chatbot into its Edge browser, web browser company Opera on Wednesday announced that it is integrating generative AI chatbots powered by ChatGPT and ChatSonic, into its desktop browsers Opera and Opera GX, a special version of the browser built specifically for gamers.

While OpenAI-backed ChatGPT launched in November 2022 is already taking the online world by storm, ChatSonic is an AI-powered content creation platform founded by India-born Samanyou Garg, who also owns AI writer Writesonic.

In February this year, Opera shared plans to integrate into its web browser using ChatGPT.
These new tools are available in early access across all desktop platforms, according to the company. AI Prompts, a native feature in the Opera Browser, will help users shorten a long confusing text or explain it to them, whether it's a paragraph, a whole article, or even a website.
ChatGPT has already gained a lot of popularity as a conversational AI platform, and its integration into the Opera browser is set to bring even more convenience to users, Opera said in a blogpost.

Besides the new AI Prompts feature, users can also have access to the web versions of ChatGPT and ChatSonic right in the sidebar of the Opera browser.
The company said that these two new features will help generate ideas, summaries, translations, and itineraries, plus users can write code, learn music, get help on math, draft text, and more.
Joanna Czajka, Product Director at Opera said that the company is actively expanding its AI program into AIGC for browser, news, and gaming products through its own solutions and new and existing partnerships. We're excited for our users to experience generative AI with this release.

She stated that it intends to announce more AI-powered features in the future, powered by its own GPT-based model.
Following Edge and Opera's footsteps, more browsers might follow suit and integrate some kind of AI-powered tools in the coming months. Recently, US-based Brave introduced summerisation features in its search offering, and the company said that it is already experimenting with AI-focused features for its browser.
