Infosys and GE Digital team up on grid transformation for utilities sector
Indian IT services firm Infosys has collaborated with GE Digital, a subsidiary of the American multinational conglomerate corporation General Electric, to bring grid transformation, such as improving grid performance, reliability and flexibility of grid, for the utilities sector.
Infosys and GE have been collaborating to bring innovative technologies for energy transition over the past 18 years. Infosys said in a statement that the companies will jointly bring “value added solutions for grid related products and services for help grid operators and will follow a go-to-market approach” to deliver the same.
The grid transformation solutions will be offered on a grid orchestration software platform and a suite of intelligent applications that bring together energy data, network modelling, and artificial intelligence (AI), the statement said.
Infosys will build a GE Digital Center of Excellence (CoE) to expand the talent pool for the GE GridOS portfolio and will also invest in accelerators to integrate the GE platform and application suite into enterprise ecosystems and address client specific requirements. Ashiss Dash, executive vice president (EVP) and global head - services, utilities, resources and energy, Infosys, said. He added, "Through the GE Digital Center of Excellence, we plan to bring product depth, scale, and service delivery best practices to this rapidly growing market".
In addition, Infosys will also bring in digital capabilities in areas like AI, cloud, cybersecurity and Industrial internet of things (IIoT) to support utility transformation.
“With energy transition driving increasing complexity on the grid, alignment between IT and OT is becoming very important,” said, Mahesh Sudhakaran, General Manager, GE Digital Grid Software, adding that “the utility’s ability to not just manage but orchestrate the clean energy grid relies on a unique combination of software and partnership for strategy building, as well as execution of solutions”.
From that perspective, this collaboration will help the companies to deliver the benefits of Information Technology and Operational Technology (IT-OT) convergence to utilities, and in turn will enable “significant productivity and service level improvements, along with critical cost efficiencies,” Sudhakaran added.
