Google's Clock app will now let users to record their own alarm sounds
With this latest update to the Clock app, users will be able to record their own alarm and timer sounds directly from the app. The upgrade to the app's server will bring about the new Record option in the alarm settings, and it will be available in version 7.3 of the app.
The upgrade, which was discovered by Telegram user @Cooooooob, is being sent out to Pixel users via a server-side change to the Google Clock app rather than an in-app update. However, users of non-Pixel smartphones with custom ROMs like Lineage OS are reporting that the update is available for their devices, too.
Reports from XDA-developers indicate that Google has simplified the process of using user-created audio for alarm sounds in the most recent version of the Clock app. Previously, users would need to use a file manager app to transfer their recordings before adding them in the Clock app's dedicated section for alarm sounds. The Clock app now features a built-in recording function, saving you the trouble of outside sourcing the necessary sounds.
However, the method is not as simple as it first appears, once you have recorded your alarm sound, you must transfer it to the Alarms folder on your device's internal storage using a file management program. The Add new button in the Alarm sound settings will then display it as a potential option.
According to Esper's Senior Technical Editor, Mishaal Rahman, Android is also getting a slew of new capabilities via a Google Play Services update. Artillery alarm notifications in Ukraine and a possible rebranding of Smart Lock as "Extend Unlock" are among these updates.
Along with "Tap to ID" Bluetooth trackers, low battery alarms for styluses utilising Fast Pair are on the horizon, too.
