Apple TV streaming app may roll out on Android phones soon
Apple is reportedly working on bringing its video streaming platform Apple TV+ to Android smartphones, according to a Twitter post by a renowned Apple tipster ShrimpApplePro.
“Apple TV app is coming to Android, currently are still internal beta testing. Will soon be released. Apple Music app for Android is also getting updated too,” ShrimpApplePro said in the post.
Apple video streaming app Apple TV+ is already available on Android TV since June 2021. The rollout on Android smartphones will open the OTT platform to a large user base. Apple TV+ is believed to have over 25 million paid subscribers as of March 2022, according to Statista data.
Apple’s music streaming app Apple Music has been available on Android smartphones since 2015. However, unlike the music app which has a lot more audio content, Apple TV+ service has limited originals and free movies as part of the monthly subscription service in comparison to rivals such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Most of the movies on Apple TV+ are available for rent or for purchase and users have to pay on top of the subscription fees to access them.
However, some of the Apple Original shows and movies have received a lot of accolades and that might draw many Android users. For instance, one of the Apple originals movies CODA received the Best Picture award at the 2022 Oscars.
On Apple devices, the Apple TV+ app is available for free for the first three months, following which ₹99 is charged every month.
From February 2023, AppleTV+ will also live stream football matches from the Major League Soccer (MLS), the top domestic football league in North America.
In June, Apple signed a 10-year deal with MLS becoming their exclusive digital broadcaster across the world.
