A lawsuit in the US alleging Google’s privacy-breaching location tracking practices could soon become a punishable offence in India including financial penalties, Union minister of state (MoS) for information technology (IT), Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said earlier today. In a tweet citing a penalty of $391.5 million to be faced by Google in the US, the minister tweeted, “This type of ‘misuse’ of customer data violates privacy and data protection expectations.”
