Wipro hires Frederic Abecassis to lead BFSI sector in Southeast Asia
India's fourth-largest IT services company, Wipro, has announced the appointment of Frederic Abecassis as the head of banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) industry sector, for the company’s Southeast Asian market. Abecassis will be based in Hong Kong and lead the company’s BFSI business growth across the region.
In his new role, Abecassis will partner with and help clients achieve their core business and digital transformation goals and ESG (environmental, social and governance) initiatives and will also help strengthen Wipro's ecosystem of technology partners in the Southeast Asian market, according to the company.
Abecassis brings over two decades of experience in leading strategy and business and technology consulting across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He has been supporting leading financial services institutions to shape and deliver large transformation programs, right from strategy to execution.
“With Frederic’s vast experience and deep expertise, I am confident of strengthening our position as a market leader in the region, deepening our engagement with existing clients and establishing a thriving ecosystem with our technology partners,” said Badri Srinivasan, managing director - Southeast Asia, Wipro Limited.
“Financial Services organizations are operating in an exponentially changing world. More than ever, the industry is facing an absolute need, but also a unique opportunity, to shape the future by partnering in new ways to accelerate digital transformation, innovate, increase efficiencies, and serve both economic and societal priorities,” Abecassis said, adding that he is geared up to “lead the BFSI business in this diverse region, driving value for clients, growing talent base, and contributing to Wipro’s growth.”
Prior to joining Wipro, Abecassis was with Capgemini Invent, where he held various leadership roles, including FS Strategic Deals Lead in France, Head of FS Middle East, and Managing Director of Hong Kong & Southeast Asia. He holds a Masters in Management & Finance from EDHEC Business School in France.
Wipro has seen a spurt of executive movements in recent months. Earlier in November Wipro appointed former Capgemini executive Amit Choudhary as chief operating officer and a member of Wipro's executive board, who according to the company, will be responsible for driving organisational growth and operational efficiency.
In October, Suzanne Dann was promoted as chief executive officer of Wipro Americas 2 Strategic Market Unit, after Angan Guha, who left the company earlier in October and joined IT company Birlasoft as CEO and managing director. According to a Mint report published on October 13, four senior executives overseeing business in four countries have left Wipro in the last two month.
