Twitter is testing a new feature that will allow users to make changes to a tweet after it is posted. It will be rolled out to the microblogging platform’s premium users over the next few weeks, Twitter said in a blog post, published September 1. Twitter Blue, which is their premium version, gives paid users early access to new features. It is currently available only in select markets and India isn’t one of them, which means users in India will not be able to test the new feature.

Initially, the test will be available to users in a single country and will be expanded to other geographies based on the feedback from it.

Though the feature will be available only to a select group of users, edited tweets will show with an icon, timestamp, and label so everyone else on the platform can tell when a tweet has been modified. Users can see the previous versions of the tweet by tapping on the label. According to Twitter, this would protect the “integrity of the conversation” and keep a “publicly accessible record” of what was said earlier.

Twitter further said in the post that the option to edit tweets is the most requested feature it has received from its users. During the testing phases, the option to edit a tweet will be available only for 30 minutes after it's published.

Most of the leading social media networks including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn allow users to edit posts after publishing. Apple’s iMessage also recently added the option to edit messages after they are sent, while WhatsApp is currently testing a feature on similar lines.
