Microsoft to roll out new sharing feature for Edge Browser
Microsoft is developing a new feature for its Edge browser called “Drop” that will make file sharing easy.
The new feature will enable users to share files and notes across all devices that have the Edge browser installed.
The feature will be seen on the sidebar of the computer, according to a report by XDA Developers.
The report further says that Drop would look similar to a messaging service with which, users will, however, be able to send messages only to themselves.
At present, Drop can only be found in Microsoft Edge Insiders running the latest version available in the Canary channel. It appears to be a part of a controlled feature rollout meaning all users in the Canary channel may not be able to avail it.
For those who want to look into the feature now, they need to download the latest version of Microsoft Edge and check if they are getting the feature. Those who get the option can select the three dots in the menu and choose Settings. The user can then select Appearance and the Drop option may be found below the citation button.
According to the report, Drop can be used to share anything from text to file attachments. The feature may provide cloud storage. The user will know about the amount of space that is currently being used on the user’s OneDrive account.
Microsoft is working on new features for Edge, apart from the new Drop feature. The tech giant has recently joined hands with CloudFlare to offer Secure Network Mode which is an in-built VPN service that encrypts the user’s data during internet browsing.
The company has also announced in its Build event last week that it is improving the PWA experience on Edge so that web apps feels more like native apps.
