It was reported in late January that India’s electronic goods exports went up by 49% in April-December 2021 at $11 billion over $7.4 billion clocked during the corresponding period a year back. The top five export destinations of such products were the US, UAE, China, Netherlands and Germany, as per the Ministry Of Commerce.
Meanwhile, the government has affirmed that the National Policy on Electronics 2019 (NPE 2019) aims to position India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) by encouraging and driving capabilities in the country for developing core components and creating an enabling environment for the industry to compete globally. It has also claimed that it has been taking up a number of proactive steps to boost exports.
It was reported recently by TechCircle that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meit) had released the second volume of a five-year roadmap and vision document for the electronics sector. The vision document, which was drafted by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), claims that electronics manufacturing will touch $300 billion in India by 2026 from the current $75 billion.
While talking about its future course of action, the union government also revealed that an IT-based platform for providing exporters licensing and addressing their grievances is also in the works. It is also working on enhancing the value of branding of Indian exports to improve India’s global standing as a reliable supplier and proactive steps are being undertaken to align the nation with the global value chain.
