Advertising in Super Bowl helped technology companies with publicity as well as app installs, stated TechCrunch citing a Sensor Tower report. Coinbase enjoyed the maximum limelight with its most-talked-about commercial featuring a bouncing QR code against a black background, resembling the erstwhile PC screensaver.  

Cryptocurrency companies have been investing immense money on mainstream media to get the right exposure for their products. The Super Bowl 2022 was the most recent way of cryptocurrency marketing ploy.

Although crypto exchanges like eToro, crypto.com and FTX did spectacular ad displays featuring top celebrities like Larry David, Matt Damon and LeBron James. But, Coinbase ad was such an inducement that its promotional page faced a crash due to the increasing viewers scanning the code and eventually landing on the site.

The latest data from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower, which analysed the numbers to access how the Super Bowl ads fared for the mobile-first brands that put up their commercials during the game. Even though Sensor Tower cannot give out the actual download numbers due to non-disclosure agreements with the clients, the data can provide a peek into the kind of impact these ads bore, said the report.  

Among the top five apps which saw maximum downloads for it ads, three were crypto apps. Apart from Coinbase, crypto trading platforms eToro produced app installs by 132% week-over-week on February 13, and by 82% on February 14. FTX witnessed a 130% spike in downloads week-over-week on February 13, followed by 81% growth the day after.   

Coinbase, eToro and FTX together gained installs in the US by 279% on February 13 compared to the previous week.
