You’d probably have to get on the Google payroll to own this cool lamp
Google has a cool new designer lamp that you can probably never own, unless you’re on the company’s payroll.
Designer Ben Gold has revealed in a Twitter post the existence of a new Google product, the Dlight lamp that has been built for optimal lighting for video conferencing.
The light can be controlled by voice commands and will be present in the Google Home App. The lamp is designed with a circular based and a T-shaped rod, the top of which houses the light, which originates from a “pill-shaped” light source that can move 90 degrees. It will also include pre-sets for different brightness levels, with controls to alter the temperature of the light.
“It is kind of part of a greater effort to improve WFH situations and improve video conferencing,” wrote Ben.
“I think they have ideas about expanding the capabilities in the future. It gets over the air firmware updates and there is a USB-C port for “future expansion,” Ben added.
In terms of the technicals, the lamp will get Over the Air firmware updates, which is a vital component of any Internet of Things device. The lamp has the name HCC Teletron Technology, which is a Foxconn subsidiary.
However, the device, created by an in-house team at Google, and has been built for only employees currently. The employees will be able to purchase the product through Google’s employee only internal store.
In the past, Google had only made normal headphones, different from Pixel Buds, for employees.
